Barking Mermaid
I have been working on the boat a lot since Gabriela has been caring for her family. The last few days I have been working on the interior wood. I have went through 2 cans of varnish and finished all of the wood in the salon last night. She (the boat) looks really good. I like her wood all shiny. I am going to start building a hard top for the cockpit this week. I will take photos and post my progress. I just can't see spending another 2,000.00 for another bimini top.. The hard top will give me a place to install solar panels that will make the Mermaid totally self suficient.
PS. I will post photos of the interior work too!!!

Hurricane Igor Update
Igor is really churning up the ocean here. The forcast is for it to steer more WNW than west which is good for us. We wre still going to see the effects of the storm in the way of high seas, rain, and wind. The surfers are going to be out surfing Hull Bay in force.. I have decided to wait one more day before deciding what to do for the storm. I already have my gear ready to go and it's a 20 minute run into Benner Bay, so if it looks like Igor is going to head for us, I will have time to prepare. I just hate being over in the Lagoon.. The mosquitos & nociums are terrible, there is no wind to speak of, and the water there is ICKY. It is also less expensive for me to be on St. John.

Hurricane Igor
Well Hurricane Igor is gaining strengthand is now a cat 4 storm with winds at 140 mph. Not sure if I am going to go back into the Lagoon or not as they are saying that it will miss us completely... I am going to be watching it closely, and make a decision tomorrow about where to hide the boat...

Gabriela's Wahoo...
We were sailing to Anguilla, and Gabriela was lucky enough to bring in this fine Wahoo... He was tasty too!!
Back on St. John
I'm Back in Great Cruz Bay on St. John. We sailed over yesterday afternoon. It was a great sail, but I guess any day you get to sail is a great day!! Clean up of boats along the shores of Chocolate Hole, and Great Cruz on St. John continues.. It's a mess. Boats everywhere on the beach here. There are a lot of people "picking over" the boats. I don't know what to think about that.I don't understand why people would just leave their boats in a storm. Especially in an unprotected bay. It's GREAT to be out of the shitty lagoon on St. Thomas !!!
